Canon Powershot S90

Finally i got myself a brand new compact digital camera that has some functionalities of a DSLR (i said SOME). I hereby present you my brand new Canon Powershot S90, the new compact Powershot frm dear Canon.

What excites me, i would said it is a Canon compact that always give me a better White Balance than the others brand compact (not all of course but better than some that i toy before), finally a Manual Focus compact, yes I know Powershot G series & LX3 has Manual Focus but I dont really consider them COMPACT.

Size wise is S90 mostly becoz of its lens.

What so special.... like i said earlier compact digital camera with big sensor, although bit smaller than Panny LX3 but i still think Panny LX3 is not compact enough (Fans of Lumix LX3 pls dun flame me ok?). You can put S90 in your shirt's pocket and its feels way more lighter than the other same class compact (LX3, G10, G11,....).

The pop up flash is control by the software and its totally different from the LX3 press and pop up flash

However i will be honest with you ppl, this camera does have some downside that i find it really annoys me. The first one is its mode dial.... this thing is so hard to spin it that you may even break your nail doing so. The IXUS series have a better Mode Dial than this dude. Then is the control dial that allows you to spin with it is too sensitive sometimes it may get in your way when you are holding and focusing your camera.

This part sux... turning it is so damn hard.

Need to becareful tat you dun touch this wheel or your setting will be ruined

Things you need to be aware of are it has no hot-shoe like the LX3 and G-series Powershot, but since it is still a compact camera why would you want so much stuff on it, its all about ease of mobility. If you do find yourself really needing this stuff then go buy the LX3 or G series or maybe a DSLR.

Other things you need to be aware of is the figure prints attraction mechanism with this thing. It just look s dirty with all the finger prints and oil that get attracted to it.

Some important thing that all other brand camera should learn is the good function of the rotation wheel on the camera lens side.

So overall stuff i like about it, compact, light and easily pocketable, easy to learn menu, rotation wheel that can allow you do multiple settings in a spin, can shot RAW + some hight quality JPEG files and lots more that i still dun know yet.

HRAP3 + Sanwa Buttons

Finally i have gotten my Sanwa buttons and finally i have modded them on to my HRAP3 arcade stick. Now i am really satisfy with the outcome of my HRAP3 + SANWA button, it feels and play just like the arcade arcade stick.

The buttons looks so simple... but they are definitely quality buttons.

It aint hard to mod the button since they are not welded on to the board, you just need to pop the board open with a screwdriver from the bottem.

After opening the bottom metal plate. You will require to use those star shape screw to open up the screw holding the front metal plate that hold the button and joystick.

Then all you need to do now is to remove the wire frm the button and pop the button out of its fitting. Simple and Easy.

The button are quite tight to fit in the plate. You need to force them in quite a bit until you heard a tick sound. Now I think removing it is quite hard later on.

Now everything is finish and can start playing Tekken 6.

Nokia N86

Here the Nokia N86 the only Nokia phone (currently) that comes in 8.0 megapixel.... a great new gadget to own if you dont wish to carry a compact camera with you on the street and still wish to take nice picture.

Compare with my N79... the screen is a lot more bigger and comes in QLED, it has faster respond than mine (some features only). The size is bigger and heavier (due to the metal finishing) and black color does attract some finger prints.... but that doesnt matter anyway.
The screen is big and bright.... and it make the N79 color look so dull.

It is a two way slider (i dunno the official term) just like his brothers (N95, N96, N85,....), playing Ngage game on it will definitely be better than N79.
It comes with a stand in the back and i guess this is not a new feature anyway... so skip.
This is the major feature of this phone... 8.0 megapixel camera. It also comes with autofocus, and other features like setting the exposure rate, scene mode, white balance, and some basic ISO setting (they is only three choices for it)

OK the picture above i took it with the N86, picture quality are wonderful... really a lot greater than my N79... the only complain is the white balance for this gadget doesnt really perform well under artificial lighting.

I dun own any other 8.0 megapixel phone, so i cant compare it with others... but i would said this is a great phone to own, overall built quality and interface itself is simple enough to be used by any ppl out there.

Nokia N79

Finally after 1 and half year with my precious Nokia 6300, it fail on me ... I ended up changing my phone over to the N-series. N79 the smallest N-series in the market now which comes with a white front housing with silver chrome around it and an express-on cover at the backcover (yup the express-on covers are back).

Nice stylish look compare to the other bulky N-series is what that caught me. It comes with a pair of stereo speakers which produce clear and loud sound, you may even mess with the 3D effects on your ring tones.

The white color on the keypad reminds me of my Wii, and i hope it wont turn yellowish (will it?). Anyway the navi pad in the middle can inmitate the Ipod Navi wheel function and can have the Navi-breathing features which is quite nice.

Ahh this is all the currently available express-on cover available in the market (more will be coming), and every purchase of N79 you will get 2 additional back cover. This express-on backcover can automatic change the theme of your phone according to the colors on it (e.g. if you place the red color on it, then the whole phone theme will change to red color), however if you want to used custom themes, you better switch off the automatic change theme function or else it will reset your custom theme.

Currently they arent any Express-on Backcover to be found locally, the best I found was this website Savcor which sells express-on cover for Nokia..... but the price is too high for me EURO$15.90 (including postage fee).

Not much accessories given, except for a white color 3.5mm Stereo Headset. The rest are just some leaflet and catalog. Oh as for my package I get 2 free Ngage game included.

Always wanted to tried out how good have the handphones camera has evolve... This N79 comes with a 5mp camera (Nokia doesnt have 8mp yet) that used Carl Zeiss lens. It comes with a camera shutter too and a dual LED flash.

As for picture taken..... i will said is so so, and it is no way near those normal 5mp PNS camera yet. Some pictures that i taken with my N79:

Anyway i still prefer using PnS Camera

N79

Lumix LX3

Ok now i am very satisfy with my phone and guess this time i can used it more than 2 years.....

Dell Inspiron 1420 - A Budget Lappie

I remember last year i did post some review on some lappie......This time it is on a RM 2k+ laptop (I think it is consider a budget or some entry level laptop).

As you have already know, last year (2007) Dell did introduce a new line of lappie into the market to replace their older one (Inspiron 1410 and 1510 was it?), this new code name laptop allow you to choose the color of the skin (around 7 color). I choose ruby red which i think it is kinda nice.

For laptop around this price range (this i bought around RM2500++) its spec cant really allow you to play some really high detail FPS or 3D games. But since it did come with a Nvidia 128mb 8400M GS graphic card, so games can still be play with medium and below setting.

2gb RAM and Intel Duo Core Processor (clock speed 667mhz)

Nvidia 128mb 8400M GS graphic card

It comes with a remote control, so you can play with your music and also do serve as a remote for presentation. It can also slide into the PCMCIA slot.

Remote for music & movie playback, it also can be used as a remote for presentation

I bought a red color Belkin sling bag for an additional RM150, really nice material and it is also red in color darn matching indeed!

Did used the Windows Vista Rating program to rate this lappie and it got a 3.7 overall (1.0 point below my BenQ s41).

The Desktop performance for Windows Aero scores the lowest

Overall I could said it is a really nice laptop which comes with a really good price. The main attraction for choosing this brand is still because of the service (The Dell Monitor case) given by this company.

MacBook Air

Someone gave my dad a Macbook Air as a presents and he passed it to me to help him set up the software on this baby!

Within the box lies MacBook Air and it tremendous logo

So far i nvr tried any MAC OS before, i have been messing with Windos for almost all my life! I also played with some Linux OS before but really never touch any MAC stuff! Maybe it is becoz it is consider quite rare for ppl using MAC OS to do normal surfing or typing document here in Malaysia!

The MAC OS X

It is like wat Job Steve did on all those Apple Products they stylish, smart looking and most of all they are WHITE! So wat so special about this MacBook Air? Lets start taking a good look at it!

This lappie is surely the slimmest and lightest right now! How thick is it i did not measure but you can see for yourself! Weight around 1kg! It is power by Intel Core 2 Duo 1.6ghz and other bla bla bla stuff! The bag that came with this lappie was also really small, it gave me the feeling of those A4 paper size file!

The spec of this laptop

The bag for the laptop

what shock me most when i open up and used it is! This lappie has no DVD room and onli come with one USB socket! This is holyshit! 1 USB socket and so many other stuff need to plug in........oh it also comes with a Bluetooth! So if you better go for a Bluetooth Mouse if you wanna safe up the USB socket for other usage! You can still go buy some USB extension to increase the amount of USB port!

Starting from left Headphone Jack, USB port and Micro DVI

There are also some features i find it good that other dun provide! The purple white light glowing from the keyboard which auto adjust by the Ambient Light Sensor next to the iSight Camera!

The middle one is the camera while the 2 small hole next to it is the light sensor

The keyboard light effect

So about DVD rom on this lappie! Since it does not come with one it allow user to share other PC DVD rom which are on the same network, so you can read all your stuff from ppl DVD rom into your MacBook Air! What a good way to solve the problem too but if your home network does not has WIFI then you will had to purchase a Ethernet to USB cable to plug in ur MacBook Air since it does not come with a Ethernet port (and there goes another USB port).

The accessories that were included in the box was Micro DVI to DVI, Micro DVI to VGA, a AC adapter (wow man MacBook used magnet to connect its plug with the Lappie), 2 MAC OS X disc and a cloth to wipe you precious MacBook!

The stuff under the laptop

The accesories that came along

I have notice few problem with this MacBook Air that i find it not done well enough (tat is beside the USB port and DVD rom issue). First the LCD screen of this lappie can flip too high, it is somehow limit to 120 degree and if you leave it on a lower table or your leg you wont get a good view on your screen!

Second, due to the enormous size battery built in this lappie, it generates a lot of heat at the place where you place your palm, making it really uncomfortable! And that is what i noticed so far! May do some update if i find some more!

Now i am trying to install the Internet Explorer into the MAC OS X which is so difficult! Curse you M$ for making ur thing so difficult to install into other OS! Why i want to do so.......damn becoz some stupid website or code can onli run under IE!
